Earlier this rice was also reported in Dudhwa and Corbett Park. According to forest department officials, wild rice was once included in food plates in China and South America. People of China are now keeping a distance from it, but there is a demand for it in South America. The special thing is also that the weeds are considered very nutritious. In Dehradun, it has been discovered by Manoj Chandran, Chief Forest Conservator of Forests, Forest Department. According to Chandran, this wild rice was seen roaming in a marshy area in Dehradun Forest Division. Its botanical name is Orgia officials and it was earlier reported in Dudhwa and Corbett in Uttarakhand.
Many forest officials have tweeted on Chandran’s tweet. According to Indian Forest Service officer Surendra Mehra, there is also a possibility that this wild rice should be somewhere in Rajaji as well. Chandran says that it is possible. He himself saw this wild rice in the Chaukhamb area of the Lansdowne Forest Division. According to another forest officer STS Lapcha, it should be included in the compartment history of the Dehradun Forest Division. According to Manoj Chandran, “wild rice occurs on its own in marshy ground. It has been found in a very large area in Dehradun. It is clear that more study is needed. No one reported wild rice before in Dehradun. I think its large area is present here. More research needs to be done on this now.”
