(Manisha Mahar, Intern Journalist): BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said on Sunday that during the IPL to be held in the UAE, there will be a women’s T20 Challenger Series. It has also been approved in the Governing Council of the IPL. The IPL will be held from September 19 to November 10. Before the Challenger Series, a camp will also be organized for women players in the Central Contract List of the board.
The Women’s T20 Challenge League will be held in the IPL playoff week itself. Like last time, this time also 4 matches will be played between 3 teams in the Challenger Series. The tournament will take place in a bio-secure environment due to Corona. The former Indian captain also said that a camp would also be organized for the women players in the BCCI’s Central Contract List, which had to be canceled due to the situation arising due to Corona in the country. Ganguly said that we cannot put the health of any of our cricketers at risk. Be it either men or women cricketers. It would be dangerous to do so.
The Women’s T20 Challenge was first played in 2018. Then there was a single match, in which the Supernovas defeated the Trail Blazers. In 2019 too, the BCCI conducted 4 T20 matches between three women’s teams during the IPL. Then the third team Velocity was entered.
