There were several accidents on Yamuna Expressway and Peripheral Expressway due to fog on Monday. Two people lost their lives and more than 20 people were injured. About 50 vehicles collided due to fog. Now the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has decided. The maximum speed limit for vehicles on the expressway will be reduced from 15 December to 15 February 2021.
Yamuna Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr. Arunveer Singh said on Tuesday that the speed of small vehicles has been reduced by 20 percent and that of elders by 25 percent, keeping in mind the fog. According to him, from December 15, the maximum speed limit of vehicles on Yamuna Expressway will be reduced from 100 kilometers per hour to 80 kilometers per hour. The maximum speed limit for heavy vehicles is currently 80 kilometers per hour. It will be reduced to 60 kilometers per hour. The authority has said that action will also be taken against those who violate the speed limit.
Due to fog in the winter, the visibility on the Yamuna Expressway decreases, due to which the journey of the expressway becomes dangerous. Due to fog, many passengers have died on the expressway in the past days. Two people died on Monday.
Now this step has been taken to curb accidents during fog. Now the maximum speed limit of vehicles is being reduced on the Yamuna Expressway from 15 December to 15 February.
