(Satya Havilah, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: The country has got a new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) after about 2 months. President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday administered the oath to formerly retired officer Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha as Chief Information Commissioner (CIC).
CIC was lying vacant since August
Please tell that after the completion of Bimal Julka’s term, the post of CIC was lying vacant from August 26 this year. Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha, who became the new CIC, was earlier a member of the Central Information Commission. He took the post of information commissioner on January 1 last year. Now his tenure as CIC will be 3 years.
Three-member committee selects
According to the information, the CIC is selected by a three-member committee headed by the PM. Currently, apart from PM Narendra Modi, Congress leader in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary and Home Minister Amit Shah are members of this committee. Apart from Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha, the committee also approved the appointment of journalist Uday Mahurkar, former Labor Secretary Hira Lal Samaria, and former Deputy Control and Auditor General Saroj Punhani as information commissioners.
The number of commissioners increased to seven. After the joining of these three members, the number of commissioners in the Central Information Commission will increase to seven, While their approved capacity is 10. Currently, Vanaja N Sarna, Neeraj Kumar Gupta, Suresh Chandra, and Amita Pandow are the other information commissioners in the commission.
Uday Mahurkar has been a former Journalist
Journalist Uday Mahurkar has worked as a senior deputy editor with a major media institute. He is a graduate in Indian History, Culture, and Archaeology from Maharaja Sayajirao University in Gujarat. Hiralal Samaria is a 1985 batch IAS officer of Telangana cadre. He retired as secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment in September. Saroj Punhani has been a 1984-batch Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IAAS) officer.
