Akshi Kamboj (intern journalist) The first batch of five Rafale fighter jets of the 36 ordered by India arrived at the IAF Air Force Station in Ambala after covering a distance of 7000 Km after they were flagged off by the Indian Ambassador to France from an Airbase in Merignac. The jets were refueled by Air to Air refueling method and given a rest at United Arab Emirates Airbase.
The five fighter aircraft were flown by Indian Air Force pilots of the 17 “golden arrows” squadron and were led by Captain Harkirat Singh.
Section 144 has been imposed at the Air Force station and in four villages close to the Airbase in order to maintain security thus preventing any photography or videography of the arrival.
The Defence Ministry of India signed an inter-governmental agreement with Dassault Rafale aviation for the purchase of 36 twin-engine fighter-planes from for Rs 58000 crore in 2016.
