(Priyanka Gupta, Intern Journalist): The Ministry of Resources and Development which has now been named as the Ministry of Education has approved the new education policy which is a big decision in the educational revolution.
Major points of the New Education Policy are:
1) SSRA (State School Regulatory Authority) will be formed, whose chief will be associated with the Department of Education.
2) 4 year integrated B.Ed., 2 year B.Ed. or 1 year B. Ed course will be offered.
3) Pre Primary Education under ECCE (Early Childhood Care and Education) through Anganwadi and Schools.
4) TET will be applied up to secondary level.
5) Teachers will be removed from non-academic functions, only election duty will be imposed, teachers will be removed from BLO duty, MDM will also remove teachers from duty.
6) SCMC i.e. School Complex Management Committee will be formed along with SMC / SDMC in schools.
7) Teacher appointment will also include demo / skill test and interview.
8) A new transfer policy will come in which the transfers will be almost closed, the transfer will be on promotion only.
9) Staff quarters will be built in rural areas, on the lines of central schools.
10) RTE (Right to Education) will be implemented till class 12 or till the age of 18 years.
11) Healthy breakfast along with mid day meal will also be given in schools.
12) There will be three language based schooling.
13) Foreign language courses will also start in schools.
14) Science and mathematics will be promoted, science or math subjects will be compulsory in every senior secondary school.
15) Local language will also be the medium of instruction.
16) NCERT will be the nodal agency in the entire country.
17) Politics and government intervention in schools will be almost finished.
18) There will be a credit based system which will make it easy to change college, any college can be changed in between.
19) In the new education policy, only 4-year B.Ed after B.Ed inter, 2 years B.Ed after graduation, 1 year B.Ed course after Masters.
20)In the new education policy, the format of 10 + 2 has been completely abolished. Now it is divided into 10 + 2 and 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 format. This means that the first five years of school will now include three years of pre-primary school and foundation stage including class one and class 2. Then the next three years will be divided into the preparation phase of classes 3 to 5. This is followed by three years of middle stage (classes 6 to 8) and four years of secondary stage (classes 9 to 12). Apart from this, there will be no strict adherence to arts, commerce, science stream in schools, students can now take whatever courses they want.
