(Rishitha Jaladi, Intern Journalist) Amaravati: As the Governor of Andhra Pradesh Biswa Bhushan Hari Chandhan Passed the AP three capital bill on Friday, Amaravati farmers protested against the decision of the government. This new bill passed will leave a great loss to the farmers of Amaravati.
In 2014 when Chandra Babu Naidu was the Chief Minister, the cabinet combinedly decided Amaravati as the new capital, YSRCP, then the opposition party also approved it. Hence, around 33,000 acres of land in Amaravati is brought from farmers for constructing a new capital. A few temporary buildings were already raised during the TDP government.
But as YS Jagan and his party took the lead in AP 2019 elections, the cabinet chaired by Jagan proposed three capitals for Andhra Pradesh, in December. Now, Officially Vizag is the executive capital, Amaravati is the legislative capital and Kurnool is the judicial capital.
Unable to digest the fact that Amaravati is no longer the capital, and all the lands given were of no use, farmers took to streets amid the pandemic times to fight for their lands. The most fertile lands once were of no use now. It’s pathetic, that more than 80 farmers committed suicide knowing the fact that Amaravati is no longer their capital. Andhra Pradesh will not be cowed down by the politics of arrogance and self-interest practiced by those in power. The fight for farmers and the future of the state has just begun said, Farmers.
