(Dharshini.G, Intern journalist) Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has composed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioning him to declare the locust attack a national catastrophe which will reinforce the capacity of states to battle this threat.

Mr. Gehlot, in a letter dated August 2, said that around 6.70 lakh hectare of land in 12 locales of the state has been influenced by locust invasion in the year 2019-20.

“With the assistance of the central government insect alerts and joint endeavors by the Center and state government, the effect of the threat was radically diminished. Be that as it may, farmers have still faced misfortunes equivalent to around Rs 1,000 crore,” Mr. Gelot said.

Aside from Rajasthan, he said that Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and different states likewise faced the threat this year.
