(Riya Saha,Intern Journalist)Dhanbad: Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic which has compelled each and everyone to maintain physical distancing, the district administration has decided to upgrade ‘janta darbar’ to it’s online version, e-Mulakat.
During the darbar organised twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays, citizens visit the DC office and register their various complaints, ranging from old-age and disability pensions to lack of ration cards and non-payment of benefits under welfare schemes. This mode of complaint registration and redressal, which is popular among common people from the first session itself, involved physical contact that will spread the virus.
In the first such session on July 21, the DC provided immediate relief to about six long-pending complaints. On July 24, a complainant from Bhuli, got a ration card within minutes of her complaint. On July 31, the darbar resolved an issue of non-payment of money taken by a builder from a couple way back in 2014.
Deputy commissioner Uma Shankar Singh, who introduced the ‘janta darbar’ soon after he took charge, said, “People should continue to register their grievance, but through social media, like Twitter, WhatsApp and Facebook, for the time being until the digital platform is operational.”
Currently, e-Mulakat is being developed by the district NIC, officials said.
