(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu has resigned from his post. After which Manoj Sinha has been made Lt. Governor. GC Murmu is being appointed for the post of the new auditor of the country. Sources have said that Murmu had already resigned from his post. Actually, the post of Comptroller and Auditor General is getting vacant soon because the current auditor Rajiv Maharishi has turned 65. According to the information, GC Murmu will be appointed after the post of Comptroller and Auditor General is vacant. The Comptroller and Auditor General is a constitutional post and cannot be left blank.
According to the statement issued by the President’s Office, “The President has accepted the resignation of Girish Chandra Murmu as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. President Manoj Sinha is appointed as the Lt. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. A senior bureaucrat of the Cabinet Secretariat said, “Auditor Rajiv Maharishi will turn 65 on August 8, so the government is in a hurry.”
BJP’s leader Manoj Sinha has been the Minister of State for Railways in the first term of the Modi government. He contested from Ghazipur in the Lok Sabha elections held last year but he could not win. He was defeated by the alliance’s Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Afzal Ansari by 119,392 votes. In the 2014 elections too, Sinha defeated Socialist candidate Shivakanya Kushwaha by 32,452 votes. In 2014, Manoj Sinha received a total of 306,929 votes. Then the SP and BSP fought separate elections.
