(Namita Pradhan, Intern Journalist) Uttar Pradesh; Ganga Dussehra is a famous festival of Uttar Pradesh. It is celebrated by Hindus celebrating the avatar and of the Ganges. It has a belief that on this day the holy river Ganga was descended from heaven to earth on this day. It is celebrated on Dashami(10th day) of the month Jyestha (Hindu Calendar). It is celebrated for 10 days. It is celebrated in the places where the holy river flows. The devotees gather at the river bank and perform the aartis to the river Ganga. On this day it was believed to take a dip on the river will bring the devotee to a state of purification and heal all the physical ailments. It was believed bathing on these ten days on the river will rid ten sins for a lifetime.
The River Yamuna is also worshipped on the same day and also the kite flying was also held. Devotees take a dip on the Yamuna river at places like Mathura, Vrindaban and Bateshwar, the offerings of watermelon and cucumber was done.
