(Namita Pradhan, Internet Journalist) Odisha: Konark temple is the sun temple made in the 13th century by King Narashimhadeva belong to the Eastern Ganga Dynasty. It is situated at a distance of 35 km from Puri, Odisha. It was made in dedication to the Hindu Sun God Surya. The temple complex remains a Chariot of 100 feet with wheels and horses carved on the stone.
The temple used to be of 200 foot but it got ruins, particularly the shikhara tower placed over the sanctuary. The temple is famous for its intricate artwork, iconography, and themes. The artwork is a classic illustration of Kalinga architecture. The destruction of the temple is still remaining unclear and yet in controversy. It is known as Black Pagoda. It was declared world heritage site by UNESCO in 1984. It is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus.
