Elections are to be held for the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha on the first day of the session and opposition parties are planning to field DMK MP Tiruchi Siva as their candidate. The nomination deadline is September 11 at 12 noon. MP Shiva has been elected to the Rajya Sabha four times. He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996 from Pudukkottai in Tamil Nadu.

Shiva will come to Delhi on 10 September. After this, a final decision will be taken regarding his candidature. The name of the candidate has not been announced by the NDA so far, but it is expected that JDU member Harivansh Narayan Singh may be the candidate for the post again.

On Tuesday, at a meeting of the party’s strategy group led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, it has been decided that a joint candidate will be fielded by the opposition for the election of Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha. During the Parliament session, various issues were also discussed to surround the Modi government.
