(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): On October 7, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the revised cost of the Kolkata East-West Metro Corridor project for Kolkata city and adjoining urban areas. The estimated cost of completing the project is Rs 8,575 crore and the target date of completion is December 2021. Goyal, while briefing journalists about the cabinet decision, said that the total route length of the project is 16.6 km with 12 stations. An official spokesperson tweeted that the project would increase urban connectivity with ease of transport and would provide a clean transportation system to millions of daily commuters.
