(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) Malabar: The Malabar Naval Exercise Series began in the year 1992 with bilateral joint naval exercises of the Indian Navy and the US Navy. Japan joined the naval exercise in 2015. This annual naval exercise was held on the Guam coast in the Philippine Sea in the year 2018, on the Japan coast in 2019 and now this exercise is expected to be held in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea by the end of this year.

As India strives to increase cooperation with other countries in the maritime security sector and defense participation with Australia, this time the Australian Navy’s participation in the Malabar Naval Exercise 2020 will also be seen. This year, the exercise is planned on a ‘no-contact-at-sea’ format. This exercise will further strengthen coordination and cooperation between the navies of the participating countries. Countries participating in the Malabar Naval Exercise 2020 look forward to increasing safety and security in the maritime sector. These countries collectively support an independent, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific Sea region and are committed to a rule-based international border system.
