(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) Pokhran: Today India successfully completed the final test of the Nag Anti Tank Guided Missile developed by DRDO with a warhead. The final trial of the missile was completed at 6.45 am this morning. The trial was completed from the firing range of Pokhran Field in Rajasthan. This test has been done at a time when there are disputes over the LAC of India and China.
After this trial, the missile is now ready to join the Indian Army. Defense Research and Development Organization officials said that India successfully conducted the final test of the Nag Anti Tank Guided Missile developed by DRDO today. A snake missile system fired from a Nag missile carrier (NAMICA) can carry our targets to a range of 4 to 7 kilometers and is fitted with an advanced seeker at home for its target. The Nag missile is a third-generation anti-tank guided missile, with a top attack capability that can effectively engage and destroy all known enemy tanks during the day and night.
The Army needs a third-generation ATGM with a strike range of over 2.5 km. They need to equip their mechanized infantry units to carry on their Russian BMP vehicles. The military is currently using second-generation Milan 2T and Konkur ATGMs and is looking for third-generation missiles, which are critical to intercepting enemy tanks. In 2018, the Ministry of Defense acquired 300 Nag missiles and 25 NAMICA for the Indian Army. In the last two months, India has completed testing of about 13 missiles and reports of launch of some other missiles have also come to light in the coming months. It is reported that India will soon test a missile that will be able to hit enemy tanks with a stand-off distance of more than 10 km. The test was conducted at the firing range of Pokhran Field in Rajasthan. Senior officials aware of the matter have said that the missile will be tested in the next two months.
