(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): The Supreme Court has today made oral comments on the issue of deteriorating air pollution in the capital Delhi. Earlier, the Central Government told the Supreme Court that a law has been enacted today to deal with the issue of burning stubble in neighboring states. Chief Justice of India SA Bobde said that they are in talks with experts who have said that the burning of straw is not the only cause of air pollution in the capital, vehicles pollution is also a major contributor. CJI Bobde said the time has come to get our bicycle out.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that the ordinance on “air quality management in the National Capital Region and adjoining areas” is ready and the court can record his statement in this regard. The bench, comprising Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian, said that it would like to observe the ordinance once before passing any order in this regard. The bench said that further hearing of the case would be held next Friday.
