(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): India’s Ajay Jayaram and Shubhankar de Saralorlux are out of open badminton in isolation. Both these players came in contact with the father and coach of the defending champion Lakshya Sen, who was found to be Corona positive.
The 19-year-old Lakshya has already withdrawn, whose father DK Sen was found positive. No symptoms have been detected in them at present. The World Badminton Federation said in a statement, ‘The BWF confirms that three players have withdrawn as a precaution since the SaralorLux Open 2020 since they were in contact with a member of their team who was found to be Corona positive.’
It said, “These three players Lakshya Sen, Ajay Jayaram and Shubhankar Day will not participate further in the tournament.” The three players and the team have been kept in isolation. Lakshya, Jayaram, and Dey were found negative before the tournament. Lakshya and Dey got a bye in the first round while Jayaram won the first round. With this, the Indian challenge ended in the tournament. The badminton calendar was severely affected this year due to the coronavirus epidemic. The game has been restored through the Denmark Open this month.
