(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): The non-BJP-ruled state of Kerala on Wednesday also withdrew the consensus given to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for investigation in the state. Last month, the Maharashtra government also withdrew the consensus given to the CBI for investigation in the state. Sources said the decision was taken in the cabinet meeting.
After this, the CBI will now have to first obtain the permission of the state government to register a case in Kerala. Earlier, on Monday, Kerala Chief Minister P. Vijayan targeted the Central Investigation Agency for the first time after the CBI started investigating gold smuggling. He had said that the CBI was acting out of its jurisdiction, posing a threat to the federal structure of governance.
