(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: The suicide of Aishwarya, a student of Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi, one of the most renowned educational institutions in the country, has shocked the academics along with the people. The suicide note written before suicide has revealed the financial helplessness of the student. Her words suggest that she wanted to study in a hurry, but due to financial difficulties, she was unable to take a laptop. According to the suicide note, Aishwarya, a student of Maths Honors at Lady Shri Ram College, had financial problems and therefore could not buy a laptop. Student Aishwarya had also written a letter to Bollywood actor Sonu Sood in view of her financial difficulties and sought help. In a letter to Sonu Sood, Aishwarya wrote that she was not able to do online classes without a laptop. With this, his practicals were not being done.
Aishwarya, who hails from Rangareddy district of Telangana, has written in her suicide note – ‘Forgive me. I could not be a good daughter. ‘ Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also responded to this suicide note by tweeting. Aishwarya, daughter of auto mechanic Srinivas Reddy and mother who stitched clothes, wanted to go to the administrative service. It is said that the financial situation of her house had deteriorated due to the lockdown. The situation had deteriorated so much that she was finding herself unable to continue her studies.
Aishwarya, a very talented scholar, topped her school. Aishwarya got admission in her merit at Lady Shri Ram, a renowned college in Delhi University. The Student Federation of India and NSUI (National Student Union of India) issued an official statement saying that the student was to get an Inspire Fellowship from the Ministry of Science and Technology. According to the rule, the fellowship should have been received in March, which was not found. ‘No one is responsible for my death. I do not want to be a burden on my family. I cannot live without studies, I was thinking about it and now I feel that death is the only way for me. Mother, father, forgive me, I could not be a good daughter.’ Aishwarya was a second-year B.Sc Mathematics student at Lady Shri Ram College. She committed suicide on 3 November due to financial constraints.
On this whole issue, the Principal of Lady Shri Ram College Suman Sharma said that the ministry gives the fellowship in the second year. But apart from the fellowship, there are many other committees in the college, where if she had spoken, we would have stood together. The student never shared the financial problem with anyone.
Considering the problem of girl students in the Corona period, the facility of counseling has been started. She spoke to the principal, the girl’s mother, but she did not say anything of the sort.
