(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): Jabalpur: The Bar Council of India (BCI) has granted relief to those provisional lawyers whose provisional tenure is ending or has expired between 24 March 2020 to 31 March 2021. Such provisional lawyers will be able to continue advocating till they pass the All India Bar Examination.
According to BCI rules, any new lawyer has to pass the All India Bar Examination within two years of registration, else his eligibility to advocate is terminated. All India Bar Exams are conducted twice a year.
Results of All India Bar Exam held in November last year were canceled in Jabalpur and Bhopal. Because of this, there was confusion among the lawyers who completed the two-year provisional term. The BCI has issued orders allowing lawyers who have completed provisional tenure to continue to advocate.
