(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: In the case of bribery or bribery, India has created a record in Asia, on which every Indian would feel ashamed. In the case of corruption, the situation in India is worst in Asia, because the rate of bribery in India is 39%. In a report released on Wednesday by Transparency International, which works on corruption, it has been revealed that India is on top in bribery in Asia, followed by Cambodia (37 percent) and Indonesia (30 percent) on the third. At the same time, the rate of bribery is 28 percent when it comes to China. The lowest bribing country is Maldives and Japan jointly. 47 percent of the people surveyed in India believe that corruption has increased in the last 12 months, while 63 percent believe that the government is doing a good job to curb corruption. About 46 percent of the people in India have resorted to personal connections to avail public services.
Indonesia and China are followed by India in resorting to personal connections. While 46 percent of the people in India resorted to Parnassal connection, 36 in Indonesia and 32 percent in China used it. In contrast, only 4 and 6 percent of people in Japan and Cambodia resorted to personal connections to avail public services. The report said that bribes were demanded from about 50 percent of the bribes. At the same time, 32 percent of people said that if they do not give bribes then their work could not be done.
In an earlier report released by Transparency International released in Davos at the World Economic Forum in January, India was ranked 80th among 180 countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index.
During the survey by Transparency International, people were asked to know about the experiences and perceptions of corruption in the last 12 months. The survey included six types of government services – police, schools, courts, government hospitals, identity cards, and service benefits. The number of people bribing the police in India is 42 percent. At the same time, about 41 percent of the people have given bribes to make documents like identity cards. In the case of the police, the highest number of 39 percent have done their work using a personal connection. At the same time, 42 percent of people have used personal connections to get an identity cards,s, and 38 percent to get work done in court cases. It is to be noted here that the rate of bribery in the neighboring country Nepal is just 12 percent.
