Can Antarctica be full of green covered with a sheet of white snow? If you too are thinking no, you are thinking wrong. The pictures released by NASA are proving your and our thinking wrong. A layer of algae has been seen in Antarctica covered with thick and white sheets of snow in these images. This algae is spreading its legs here very fast. Scientists are also surprised by such a change on the surface of the ice-covered Antarctica. However, scientists believe that penguins may be behind this change.
Scientists also believe that these algae are developing from faeces of birds and animals. One of the reasons for this is also because within the five km radius of such algae layer
The Penguin lives there. Cambridge University botanists have for the first time prepared a map of the dormant algae. Researchers have designed this map after finding information from the satellite and staying at the South Pole twice during summer and examining these algae there. The size of the layers of these algae has now become so large that it is easily seen from space as well. These algae are spreading rapidly in the melting ice region of Antarctica. This alga is believed to be a source of nutrition for other species.
