The India Meteorological Department said on Friday that during the next week night temperatures in North India will be below normal and relief can be expected only after a week. The department forecasts from December 17-24 and December 24-30 that minimum temperatures will remain 2-6 degrees Celsius below normal in most parts of northwest, central and eastern India.
Temperatures in the rest of the country are expected to be near or slightly above normal during the first week. The Meteorological Department said, “Cold wave will increase during the first part of the first week in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, western Uttar Pradesh and northern Rajasthan and then decrease thereafter.” The Meteorological Department said that Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, North Rajasthan and Northwest Uttar Pradesh will get cold in the next two days.
IMD reported that day and night temperatures in the plains of North India have fallen below normal since last week. During the second week, there will be a slight increase in the minimum temperature compared to the first week. However, IMD said that in most parts of northwest, central and eastern India, the minimum temperature would be two to four degrees Celsius below normal and in the rest of the country it would be close to or slightly above normal.
Cold in Delhi due to icy winds

On the other hand, a ‘very cold day’ occurs when the maximum temperature is at least 6.5 degrees Celsius below normal.
The IMD said that a ‘cold wave’ is forecast in Delhi on Saturday and is likely to continue till Monday. The IMD declares a cold wave for the plains when the minimum temperature is 10 ° C or below for two consecutive days and 4.5 ° C below normal. Cold wave can be declared for small areas like Delhi even if the above conditions are made even for a day.
Severe cold in many areas of Uttar Pradesh

Night temperature remained below zero in Kashmir valley
The night temperature in the Kashmir Valley remained below zero degrees Celsius on Friday, despite a slight increase in minimum temperatures in Srinagar city and Gulmarg tourist center. According to the Meteorological Department, the mercury in Pahalgam, a tourist destination in South Kashmir, fell below 9.2 degrees. According to the department, this union territory is not likely to get much snowfall by the end of the month, although scattered light to moderate snowfall may occur at isolated places in the valley on December 21-22.
Mercury minus 10 degrees in Keylong, Himachal Pradesh

Director of the Meteorological Center, Shimla, Manmohan Singh said that Keylong, the administrative center of the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti, remained the coldest place in the state where the mercury dropped to below 10 degrees Celsius.
He said that the Kalpa district of Kinnaur recorded a minimum temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius. According to him, the mercury fell below one degree Celsius in Manali while the minimum temperatures in Dalhousie and Kufri were 3.4 and 4.4 degrees respectively. According to Singh, Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 4.6.
