(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): The centenary program of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday through video conferencing. In 56 years, Modi is the second Prime Minister after Lal Bahadur Shastri to give a speech at AMU. In his speech, Modi spoke about secularism while talking about the university’s history, alumnae, research here, and women’s education. The Prime Minister said that in which religion we have grown up, what is more, important is how we should join the aspirations of the country. Much time has gone in the name of differences. Together, we have to create a new self-sufficient India.

10 important things in Modi’s 35 minute speech

  1. Education reaches everyone equally-The new education policy has taken into account the needs of the students. Today’s youth is finding solutions to new challenges. This aspiration of youth has been given priority in the National Education Policy. Now students will have the freedom to make their decision. There were 16 IITs in 2014, now there are 23. There were 13 IIMs in 2014, today there are 20. Till 6 years ago there were only 7 AIIMS in the country, today there are 22. Education reached everyone equally, this is what we are working for.
  2. If it is the goal of the country, then differences should be left aside-I have some expectations from the youth. They should plan to find and bring freedom fighters who have not heard much about it yet. If we get suggestions from AMU for strengthening self-reliant India, then nothing will be better. Where we were born and from which family, grew up in which religion, it is bigger than how his aspirations should be associated with the country. There are ideological differences, but when it comes to achieving the goals of the country, then everyone should keep them aside.
  3. Politics can wait, not development-We have to work on common ground. All 130 crore countrymen will benefit from this. Youngsters can do this. We have to understand that politics is an important part of society, but there are more important issues in society. A lot happens above politics. There is another society. If we come together for a bigger purpose, then some people may get upset. They will resort to manipulation to prove their selfishness. Politics-society can wait, development cannot wait.
  4. Greater emphasis on higher education for a daughters-The number of Muslim girls in the AMU has increased to 35%. There should not be discrimination on the basis of gender, everyone should have equal rights. This was inherent in the founding of AMU. Earlier it was said that if a woman is educated then the family gets educated. This has deep implications for family education as well. Women have to be educated so that they can secure their future. Economic Independence brings strength. It is important to give more and more higher education to daughters.
  5. The dropout rate of Muslim daughters decreased from 70% to 30%-There was a time when the dropout rate (drop out of studies) of Muslim daughters in the country was more than 70%. This situation remained the same for 70 years. It was under these conditions that the Swachh Bharat Mission started. The government built toilets on a mission mode. The dropout rate, which was 70%, now stands at 30%. Earlier Muslim daughters used to drop out of education due to lack of toilet, now this is not happening.
  6. The people of the country should get the people of that country-80 crore people were given food in the coronary period without any discrimination. The Ayushman scheme started without any discrimination. The people of the country should get the people of that country. One alumna reported that 100 million toilets in the country all benefited. These toilets were built without any discrimination.
  7. AMU gave people new thinking- I get alumnae here during my travels abroad. They take a new look of laughter and mockery and chero-poetry from the campus here. In 100 years of history, AMU has groomed many people, has given new thinking to people. If I take the names of all the people, then the time will be short. The hallmark of AMU has been the values at which Sir Syed Ahmed Khan established the university.
  8. There are many texts of Gita and world with the Quran- Just a few days ago I received the letter of Chancellor Syedna Saheb. He talked about supporting vaccination. With such thoughts, we are facing an epidemic like Corona. People say that AMU is like a city. Mini India is visible among many departments and millions of students. Hindi-English and many languages are taught along with Urdu. The Quran is also accompanied by the Gita and several texts of the world.
  9. Research here gives new energy to the country’s culture- Work should be done to strengthen the spirit of an all-India best in the campus of AMU. The research done here on Urdu, Arabic and Persian language gives new energy to the culture of India. It is the responsibility of the AMU, the good things of the country, the strength, the students should take them from here. The institute has dual responsibility. Everyone associated with AMU will proceed keeping in mind their duties.
  10. No one is left behind because of religion- Sir Syed had said that the greatest duty of the people who care for the country is to work for the people, irrespective of their religion, caste. Just as it is necessary for every organ to be healthy for human life, similarly development of society is necessary at all levels. The country is moving on the same path. We are moving on the path that no one should leave behind due to religion. Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, everyone’s faith is its core.
