(Pooja Dubey, Intern Journalist) Negotiations between the central government and farmers’ organizations are scheduled for December 30. Earlier on Tuesday evening, Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar and Piyush Goyal met Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss Wednesday’s important talks. This meeting has been considered important before the talks.
According to sources, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Railway Minister Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Prakash will represent the Center in talks with farmers.
A total of five rounds of talks have been held between the government and farmer organizations so far. After this, Home Minister Amit Shah had informal talks with the farmer leaders before the proposed meeting on December 9 for the sixth phase of talks.
On the basis of his suggestion, the government sent a list of issues that had been identified in the previous negotiations to the farmers ‘organizations, but the proposal was rejected by the farmers’ organizations and they announced to intensify the movement.
The farmers’ organizations may have agreed to negotiate with the government on December 30, but they are still adamant on the demand to withdraw the new agricultural laws. In this regard, he has also made it clear in a letter to the government that we are coming for talks on the agenda written in our previous letter.
It is worth mentioning that in the previous letter, the withdrawal of new agricultural laws, legal guarantees on MSPs, the Air Quality Management Ordinance in the NCR and surrounding areas, 2020 and the draft Electricity Amendment Bill, 2020 were mentioned.
Farmers’ tractor march postponed
Farmers’ organizations protesting against agricultural laws have postponed their proposed tractor till March Thursday in view of the talks with the government on Wednesday.
