(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): Varsha of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut reached the office of Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday. On January 5, he was called for questioning by the ED team investigating money laundering in the PMC bank scam. However, Varsha Raut reached the ED office a day earlier. If sources are to be believed, a list of 55 questions has been prepared for the transaction of Rs 55 lakh from Varsha. Sanjay Raut said that we will cooperate fully in the investigation.
Varsha was summoned 4 times so far and was called for questioning. She has been exempted from it by repeatedly citing personal reasons. The ED suspects that the loan given to Varsha Raut has some connection with the PMC scam. Responding to the ED’s claim, Raut’s family said that the money was taken 10 years ago. In respect of this, income tax returns have also been shown.
According to sources, Varsha Raut will be administered an oath to speak the truth before questioning in the Enforcement Directorate office. She has to give in writing that she will not give the wrong answer to any question and if the answers to her questions are found to be wrong then legal action can be taken against her.
Sanjay Raut said – We will cooperate fully in the investigation
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said, ‘I was sitting in Saamna’s office, then I also came to know through you people that Varsha Raut has reached ED office. If any government agency wants to investigate a case, we will cooperate fully in their investigation. We have already given them the information they wanted and we will give them whatever they want next.
55 lakhs loan given without interest
The statement issued by the ED said, ‘Investigation has revealed that Praveen transferred Rs 1.60 million to his wife Madhuri. Of this, Rs 55 lakh was transferred to Varsha as an interest-free loan. Later, the flat was purchased in the Dadar area with this amount. It was also revealed that Varsha and Madhuri are partners in ‘Avni Construction’.
Varsha Raut is partner in four firms
The Raut family lives in their Friendship Bungalow in Friends Colony, Bhandup. According to the election affidavit given by Sanjay Raut, Varsha Raut’s income in 2014-15 was Rs 13,15,254. According to the records of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Varsha Raut is a partner of four firms, Reuters Entertainment LLP, Sanatan Motors Private Limited, Siddhant Siskon Private Limited, and Avni Construction. The firm named Reuters Entertainment LLP made the film ‘Thackeray’ in 2019. Varsha is a partner in the firm along with her husband Sanjay Raut and daughters Poorvanshi-Vidita.
What is PMC Bank Scam?
The idea of giving a loan of 6500 crores rupees to a developer through fake accounts in PMC bank came in the year 2019 in the eyes of the Reserve Bank. The Reserve Bank imposed strict restrictions in September 2019. Sarang Wadhawan and Rakesh Wadhawan were arrested by the Economic Offenses Wing in the PMC bank scam case. Of the 44 accounts that were instrumental in sinking PMC Bank, 10 accounts were of HDIL.
