(Satya Havilah, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: Bird flu has been rampant in most parts of northern India for the past few days. As a precautionary measure, three municipalities in the national capital, Delhi, have banned the sale and storage of poultry products. Authorities also closed the Ghazipur poultry market, one of the largest in Asia. However, officials said there were no signs of bird flu in the products collected from poultry there, and tests showed a negative.
‘We have collected a total of 104 samples from Ghazipur for bird flu diagnosis. Of these, 100 samples were taken from Ghazipur market poultry alone. In all of these, the bird flu was negative. That is why it has become clear that there is no bird flu in Delhi chickens, ‘said the Animal Husbandry Department officials there. However, it was revealed that the results of the four samples collected from some birds were yet to come.
Two days ago, there were signs of bird flu in crows and ducks. Authorities closed the Ghazipur poultry market. Orders have been issued not to sell poultry products anywhere in hotels and restaurants. The Delhi Health Ministry has made it clear that people should not have any fears despite the spread of bird flu.
