(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): Kuwait’s National Assembly Legal and Legislative Committee has approved a draft ex-pat quota bill that could lead to eight lakh Indians leaving the region. The proposed bill is legislative, the committee states and seeks to restrict the number of Indians to 15 percent of the population. This will now be passed to the relevant committee in order to create a detailed proposal.
The decision came a month after the Prime Minister of Kuwait said that the ex-pat population of the country will be reduced from 70 percent to 30 percent. According to government data, foreigners account for 3.4 million of Kuwait’s 4.8 million population.
