(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist) Patna: A portion of the Sattarghat bridge over the Gandak river which was inaugurated by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Gopalganj last month collapsed after heavy water flow into the river on Wednesday due to heavy rains.
The bridge was inaugurated by the Chief Minister on 16 June.
Many districts in North Bihar have lost connectivity as the bridge has been washed away. Along with this, the water pressure has also increased at the Saran embankment and if the same situation persists, then Saran district will also be affected by floods.
Administration officials took stock of the situation on Wednesday evening. The team of engineer Abhay Kumar Prabhat, the team leader of the bridge constructor, arrived and assessed the damage.
The bridge, built at a cost of Rs 263.48 crore, aims to reduce the road distance between the Gopalganj, Siwan, and Saran districts between the various cities of East Champaran.
