Lucknow: 15 contenders had reached the Samajwadi Party’s state office to interview for contested Cantt assembly by-election. The interview was taken by National President Akhilesh Yadav himself.
Akhilesh was fully prepared. When it came to the booth number of the contenders, Akhilesh Yadav counted the votes polled by the party in the 2012 and 2017 assembly elections there.
At some booths, 55 and some 200 votes were received by the party in these elections. He showed the mirror to the claimants and said that more work is needed to strengthen the organization. Now the party can announce the candidate in two days.
Former MPs and MLAs along with office-bearers of the outgoing metropolitan unit at the SP state office were called for screening of the claimants.
Seven names were sent to the panel by the outgoing unit of the metropolis. On the other hand, seven claimants had applied to the state office. The screening committee consisted mainly of national president Akhilesh Yadav and state president Naresh Uttam.
Akhilesh Yadav interviewed each contender for an average of 15 minutes.
The former chief minister had booth-wise figures for the 2012 and 2017 elections of the Cantt assembly.
Asked questions about the party’s performance at the booth in the area where the claimant belonged. Claimants’ information is also tested on the issues of the public with the caste equation.
