(Rishika Iyer, Intern Journalist): Reliance Jio launched a new video conferencing app called JioMeet on Thursday which offers unlimited free calls. Along with that they provide high definition 720p video and allow as much as 100 participants in one call. It is said that the call will be uninterrupted for 24 hours. This is a direct competition to Zoom, Google Meet, and Skype. After meticulously testing for months, Reliance has finally perfected the app. JioMeet has a rating of 4.6 on Google Play.
One of the cleverest things about Reliance is the precise time they have launched the app. At a time when India is avoiding all Chinese based products and aiming to use locally produced things. The government has also banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, CamScanner, Shein, etc. Back in April, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) warned users of the Zoom app saying it is not safe. Due to these factors, JioMeet is getting tremendously popular with over 100k downloads already.
The app has almost strikingly similar features to the zoom app which allows you to schedule meetings, provide screen sharing options. It also offers an option to enable and disable voice and video while joining the meeting and waiting room choice. The features which are different are that it comes with a multi-device support which can help you to switch easily through devices. It can support upto 5 devices.
