Aatmja Kumari(Intern Journalist): In the internal report of the CISF about the uproar that took place during the immersion of maa Durga’s statue in Bihar’s Munger district, the firing has come to light. Firering is mentioned in the report sent by the DIG of CISF Eastern Region, Patna to its top officials.

According to the report, a contingent of CISF was deputed along with SSB and District Police at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Chowk at around 11.45 pm. There was a dispute between the local police and the devotees involved in the immersion. After this, some people started throwing stones at police and security forces. To handle the situation, the Munger police first fired in the air. The crowd became more enraged and started throwing huge stones. Seeing himself defended and the situation getting out of control, the head constable of the CISF fired 13 rounds in the air with an INSAS rifle.

According to the report, the mob then dispersed and the local police and other paramilitary forces along with the CISF were able to return safely from there. This report has also been sent to top CISF officials. However, no official statement has been made regarding the report.

On 27 October, the statue of Maa Durga was stirred during immersion in Munger. A young man was killed by firing in it while several people were injured. On Thursday, violence erupted in the city to protest against it. Markets across the city were closed since Thursday morning on the call of members of the Chamber of Commerce to protest the firing. Many government vehicles were set ablaze in the raging demonstrations during this period. The mob targeted the police stations, triggering ballistics and arson.
The Bihar Election Commission, after a fierce mob demonstration, issued an order for immediate removal of Munger DM Rajesh Meena and SP Lipi Singh after taking stern action.
