Should We Celebrate Women’s Day

Association for Advocacy and Legal Initiatives in collaboration with the Legal Aid Cell of Faculty Law, Lucknow University organized an observance program on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Friday. Keeping with the campaign theme of ‘Balance for Better,’ the program focused on discussing laws related to women’s equal citizenship and rights. Dr. Vinita Kachar, Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow, spoke about the provisions in the Constitution for right to equality and right against discrimination that women are entitled to as citizens. Dr. Anupama Srivastava, Coordinator of the Institute of Tourism Studies, spoke about the importance of legal awareness and literacy for women to access their rights. Further, Ms. Shubhangi, Program Coordinator, AALI shed light on the history of International Women’s Day and the struggle of the women’s movement and spoke about the responsibility of the legal fraternity in assisting women seeking justice. Subhashini Ali, President, AIDWA spoke about the importance of the values of the Constitution of India in today’s society and called for the recognition of the role of leaders like B. R. Ambedkar as pioneers of women’s rights in India. The students and faculty members present at the program also kept their views on the issues of Women and Law and engaged the speakers in an interactive question and answer session.
