(Pooja Pal; Intern Journalist): Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli has left behind all the Indian players in terms of earning this year. He is the only Indian cricketer in the list of the highest-grossing Top 100 athletes of the Forbes.
Forbes magazine released the list of the highest-earning athletes in the year 2020. Virat to be the only cricketer included in this list. His earnings were reported to be around $ 26 million. In the list released in the year 2019, Kohli has jumped more than 30 places. Kohli, who was the only Indian player to make it to the top 100 last year, has secured 66th position in this list. He was at number 100 in 2019, earning around $ 25 million.
Former Switzerland’s number one tennis player Roger Federer has finished first this year, leaving everyone behind in terms of earning. He became the first tennis player in the world to do so. His previous year’s earnings are reported to be around $ 106 million.
The list of highest-earning players includes football stars. Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal is at number two with a gross of $ 105 million. The third place is from Argentine footballer Leonel Messi who earned $ 104 million this year followed by Brazilian striker Neymar with a total of $ 95.5 million.
In this list released by Forbes, the amount of players’ earnings has been estimated from 1 June 2019 to 1 June 2020. This includes the salary received by all the players from their board, contract bonus, prize money, brand promotion money, royalties.
