(Dharshini.G, Intern journalist) Lucknow: A women and her girl set themselves ablaze on Friday evening on a street in Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow that has the state assembly and one of the offices of the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The ladies set themselves ablaze purportedly over police inaction for a situation in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi area.
One of the ladies, distinguished as Gudiya, sustained burn wounds and was taken to a government emergency clinic in Lucknow. Her little girl likewise got burns and was admitted to the same medical clinic.
“Two ladies attempted self-immolation near Lok Bhavan. One lady was saved by the police, the other lady is in critical condition. They will likewise be tested for COVID-19,” Naveen Arora, Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order), said.
The ladies asserted they were being threatened and intimidated in an argument about a drain with their neighbor at their town in Amethi’s Jamo area. They said the police didn’t make any move on their complaints and were plotting with the other party to harass them.
The police headquarters accountable for where their town falls has been suspended.”On May 9, the lady and her neighbor had a fight about a disagreement about a drain. Both of them recorded FIRs for the situation. We have suspended two officials. A point by point inquiry has been requested,” Superintendent of Police, Amethi, Khyati Garg, said.
