(Bhagya Luxmi, Intern Journalist) Nitin Gadkari was born in a Marathi Brahmin family in Nagpur city of Maharashtra. His early life was spent in poverty and he experienced a lot of struggle to earn money to support his family and his education. Even though his economic status was not good at the beginning, but later he became the founder and president of Poly SAC Industrial Society Limited. This company is a manufacturer of rigid PVC pipes.
Apart from this, his elder son Nikhil Gadkari is the owner of Nikhil Furnitures and Appliances Private Limited, in which Gadkari is associated as promoter director. This company is a manufacturer of epoxy powder-coated steel furniture. Also, in the name of his daughter Ketki, he has started a company exporting fruits to various countries. Its name is Ketki Overseas Trading Company.
- Education:
Nitin Gadkari completed his education from GS Commerce College, Nagpur University and University College of Law, Main Branch, Nagpur in M.Com, and LLB respectively. He has also done a Diploma in Business Management.
- Initial political career:
Gadkari entered politics at a very young age. When he was a student, during 1976, Gadkari worked for the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and the Students’ Union Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. Talking about the career of Nitin Gadkari, he is a lawyer and industrialist by profession. But he decided to join politics and pursue his political career as a politician. Although he takes politics as a social service, he has started many projects for society, Dalits, and the poor.
- Political Career and Positions:
When Nitin Gadkari was only 24 years old, he was elected as the president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. After this, he worked as a secretary in Nagpur city. At that time he did important work in strengthening the organization. He has been a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council since 1989. From 1995 to 1999, he became a PWD minister in the Maharashtra government. After this, Gadkari joined the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He spread the popularity of his party across the state. In this post, he had been continuously winning 4 times in 1996, 2002, 2006, and 2008. Then in 2004, BJP elected him as state-level president. After this, in December 2009, he became the President of BJP, leaving behind Rajnath Singh, when he joined the post of BJP National President, he was the youngest person to be elected to this post. However, he withdrew from his post in 2013.
After this, Gadkari contested for Nagpur seat in the general elections held in 2014, and this election proved very good for him because he won it. After this, Nitin Gadkari was included in Modi’s list of cabinet ministers and he was chosen as road transport minister. In September 2017, additional tasks such as shipping and water resources, and river development, as well as Ganga Rejuvenation, were assigned to Gadkari. He has done all his works very well.
- His work and achievements:
Nitin Gadkari is known among his colleagues as a successful entrepreneur and a progressive leader who believes in social and economic development as well as environmental protection. Some of his notable works and achievements are as follows –
- Nitin Gadkari’s contribution is involved in working for the upliftment of farmers and providing them better living opportunities.
- Mr. Gadkari is the first person to start the country’s first bio-diesel pump. Also, they are also the first to offer the facility of solar fencing.
- The creation of Software Technology Park in the middle of India is also one of his initiatives.
- Sewage water for power generation projects is an effort made by them towards an environmentally friendly way to live a modern life.
- Nitin Gadkari is known for his work in the construction of bridges, flyovers, and expressways during his tenure in the Public Works Department.
- He is also known for playing an important role in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
- Gadkari also changed the Central PWD, due to which his contribution to the infrastructure of Nagpur city made it a beautiful city.
In this way, Nitin Gadkari has spent almost 40 years in politics so far, and during this tenure, he did many important works, due to which he has emerged as a well-known politician among the people.
