National Technology Day celebrated every year on 11 May. Former Prime Minister Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee started it. On 11 May 1998, India received former Prime Minister under the leadership of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji’ successfully conducted a nuclear test at Pokhran near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. To commemorate this day, May 11 celebrated every year as National Technology Day. This day celebrated as a celebration of the achievements of Indian scientists and engineers in the fields of science and technology. Its Pokhran is closely related to the nuclear test.
On National Technology Day in the President, Shri Ram Nath Kovind has issued a message to the fellow citizens with his official Twitter handle. Pokhran-II
On 11 May 1998, Shakti-1 nuclear missile was successfully test-fired at Pokhran in India. This operation named Pokharan-II by the government, also known as Operation Shakti codename. The test conducted at the Pokhran Test Range of the Indian Army based in Rajasthan. Let me tell you that this was the second test done in Pokhran by the Government of India. Earlier in May 1974, Pokharan-I was also tested, the operation which was codenamed Smiling Buddha.
Today is also special for these reasons
The Government of India honours scientists, who have established milestones in science every year since 1998, to this day. This year the main focus of National Technology Day has been on ‘Commercializing Indigenous Technology’. Every year the Technology Development Board of India confers the National Award on this day to Achiever who works in the field of Science and Technology. The DRDO today test-fired the Trishul short-range missile that has the capability to hit the ground-to-air fast. Not only this, but National Aerospace Laboratories also developed India’s first indigenous aircraft Hansa-1 on this day.
