In its important judgment on Wednesday, the Supreme Court has said that the protests should be to an extent, not indefinitely. The Supreme Court also said that public spaces should not be cordoned off during picketing. Simultaneously, the Delhi Police should take action to evacuate the Shaheen Bagh area. On Wednesday, on the issue of demonstration in Shaheen Bagh, the Supreme Court said in its big and verdict that it is not right to protest in public places. This violates the rights of the general public. The court has said that no protesting group or person can create barriers in public places just under the pretext of protests and cannot block public places.
Significantly, against the CAA and NRC, protesters were sitting on a dharna after occupying the main road in Shaheen Bagh for almost 100 days. Advocate Amit Sahni and former Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Nandkishore Garg filed a petition in the Supreme Court against this protest.
Here, let us tell you that the crowd of protesters was removed from the lockdown Shaheen Bagh started during the Corona transition. Against this, the petitioners are hopeful that the court may give some instructions to rein in future road protests.
In April, security forces removed the ongoing protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Citizenship Register at Shaheen Bagh in South Delhi from December 15. During this time, the tents installed there were also removed by the police. After this, a heavy police force was deployed in the Shaheen Bagh area. Then gradually things became normal here.
At the same time, in the Hauzrani area, the B police peacefully removed the protesters, here no one was detained nor arrested.
Due to the ongoing protest in 7 areas of Delhi, people were having a lot of problems in movement. Millions of people were facing problems every day due to the ongoing protests in Shaheen Bagh alone. Even with the opening of people’s shops etc., the employment of crores of rupees was stalled. It was also difficult to go from Noida-Ghaziabad to Faridabad and Gurugram.
Significantly, after the escalation of the NRC-CAA’s opposition-support dispute, violence also took place in several areas of North East Delhi on February 24-25, in which 53 people have lost their lives.
