(Pooja Dubey, Intern Journalist) The country’s leading airline company IndiGo has imposed a new type of charge on passengers. The company said that from now on, if any passenger goes to the Indigo counter at the airport to check-in, then he will have to pay a charge of Rs 100. This move of the company is being seen as a new way of revenue.
In the coming days, all airline companies can implement it. The Aviation Ministry had made it mandatory for passengers to enter the airport in May that web check-in is necessary. Passengers who do not get a web check-in will not get admission to the airport. This was done so that social distancing could be maintained.
If you do a web check-in, you are given a boarding pass. Under the new system, you do not even have to take a print out of the boarding pass. You can travel on the boarding pass which comes on email or mobile phone at the time of web check-in. Indigo has said that this new charge has come into effect from Saturday itself.
Indigo has said that we are encouraging the passengers according to the government instructions so that they use the mobile app or website. The company said that the charge will apply to the booking wherever it is done. Domestic flights have been started in the country since 25 May. While the international flight is still closed.
Under the new facility, if you get a middle seat on the flight, then you are also given a gown. It is necessary to wear it. Currently, all passengers are provided with a safety kit which consists of a sanitizer, mask, and face shield. By the way, already some airlines have started taking money for seats as well. You are given the option to choose a seat while booking your ticket. If you choose a middle seat, then you have to pay at least Rs 49, and for a side or window seat, then you have to pay at least Rs 149.
This money seems to be in addition to the ticket. In this way, airlines are making money by taking out various kinds of rules.
