Aatmja Kumari(Intern Journalist): The medical device has become an emerging field of science in view of the increasing medical needs in the world. In view of the current requirements, there is increasing demand for trained people for technology development in this area. The National Institute of Medicinal Education and Research (NIPER) Guwahati, Hyderabad and Mohali has started a new M.Tech course on medical devices to prepare such trained professionals.
The curriculum covers topics related to biology, chemistry, mathematics, clinical science and engineering necessary to develop medical devices. The course also includes a one-year project to develop prototypes of various medical devices. Degree of B. Pharma / Pharma D. / M.Sc / B.Tech / BE / MBBS / BDS or BVSC has been made mandatory as a minimum qualification for candidates seeking admission in the course.
In NIPER Hyderabad, Guwahati and Mohali, 10 students will be admitted every year in each batch for this course.
Through this course, students will have the option to start a career in research and development work in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical device industry as well as start-up companies in the field of medical devices.
