According to the latest information, Banashree Maiti, MLA from North Kanthi, has resigned from the primary membership of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and every party post.

Assembly elections are due next year in the state and the difficulties for Trinamool Congress are increasing from now. Earlier, the state transport minister and MLA Suvendu Adhikari also resigned from the post of MLA. Also, leaders like Sheelbhadra Dutta, Jitendra Tiwari, and Kabirul Islam have also resigned from the party.

The Assembly speaker does not approve Suvendu’s resignation
West Bengal Assembly Speaker Viman Banerjee said on Friday that he had not accepted the resignation of Trinamool Congress MLA Suvendu Adhikari as it was not in conformity with the provisions of the Constitution and the rules of the House. Banerjee mentioned that the officer did not personally hand over the resignation letter to her.

He said that he does not know whether the officer’s move is voluntary and genuine. He said until I am satisfied that the resignation is voluntary and genuine, it is not possible for me to accept it in the light of the provisions of the Constitution of India and the rules of functioning in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
