He wanders for a job with a degree in hand, presses clothes in the laundry. The gambler becomes a pokemon. He reaches behind bars while struggling for bread. Despite being wrong, he deserves sympathy. This broadness of the subject takes Raj Kapoor beyond country-age and he became popular from Soviet Russia to China. ‘Awara’ was Mao Tse Tung’s favorite film. Raj Kapoor’s cinema was grand. His canvas was so big that music, story, subject, costume, location, camera, editing, lighting were all huge and artistic. Even how much the camera would zoom in, how the scene got fed out, there was a story hidden in it.
