New Delhi: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane crashed before landing near Karachi Airport. PIA spokesperson Abdul Sattar confirmed the plane crashed. A-320 aircraft had a total of 107 people aboard. These included 99 passengers and eight crew members. So far 15-20 people have been evacuated from the debris. The aircraft was about 10 years old.
The aircraft took off from Lahore to Karachi at half-past one in the afternoon and crashed in a residential area near Karachi Airport. Due to being a residential area, there is an atmosphere of chaos.
Smoke is visible at the accident site. Rescue officials are sending the injured to the hospital. An emergency has been declared in all the major hospitals in Karachi due to the plane crash.
Pakistan Army’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) tweeted that Pakistan Army helicopters are reaching for relief. The Army’s Quick Action Team and Pakistani soldiers along with civilians have reached the spot for relief and rescue efforts.
The plane fell near Jinnah Garden and the sound of the blast was heard from far and wide.
